My process:
All salvaged fabrics are laundered prior to working on them. Fabrics that have been hand-printed are ironed to heat-set the printing and are then laundered a second time to ensure the color fastness of the water-based inks.
Please note: Fabrics in well-worn garments develop a patina that is both visual and tactile. My products sometimes incorporate areas of salvaged fabrics that display naturally occurring variations in color that have developed over time as the garments have faded. Slight variations of hand pressure occur during block printing and are typical of hand-printed fabrics, lending interest and uniqueness to each piece.
